My Journey

Hi, my name is Calvin. Over the years I have been teaching, I have often wondered how we could make education more engaging and interesting. This question has led me down many paths and I have had many of my own enriching life experiences from it.

Along this journey, I have become very much involved in board gaming (which has had a resurgence in the past couple of years). As a teacher, I started to experiment with ideas about how to use board games to engage children and help them develop life skills; such as negotiation, body language, leadership skills and money management. I focused on developing different skills, skills I felt were also important to their learning journey. For instance, their understanding of; cause and effect, meta gaming, winning with grace, losing with pride, stocks and shares…

So, with this in mind I decided to form the company Edgui (to educate) to support my ideas and goals and give a limited group of students some of those lifelong lessons in a safe and controlled environment.

These lessons will be fun! I find the best learning is often achieved when students are laughing together. It shows that they are comfortable, relaxed and willing to give new things a go.

I hope you are excited enough to let your child take part in this creative programme looking to develop their character and get them away from computer screens.

Professional Experience

My 23 year career in education has been very interesting and varied. I have taught from nursery to six form and been in many management positions within those roles. Along with being a moderator for the Jersey Education Department, I have also worked for the NHS; delivering health promotion messages to children across Wales. I currently work for a charity in Jersey, supporting children and schools with PSHE workshops.

Not only have the schools I worked acknowledged my professionalism, integrity and fun approach to learning, but also the parents. I pride myself in making learning fun.

My real passions are in teaching maths, English and history; I love enabling students in their own learning journey.
